You’d be amazed at how often people express surprise that all the Seignadou Soap products are really made here at the monastery! A lot of people think they are made somewhere with our label on it!
Yes ma’am, it’s all done right here in what we call the Soap Department. Nearly everyday someone–most often it’s Sr. Mary Veronica, Sr. Mary Cecilia or Sr. Mary Jacinta–are busy during the morning work period making one of our products. Now, Sr. Margaret is learning the ropes!
It’s all done by hand. In small batches. No two batches are the same!
Hand creme isn’t made so much during the summer months. It’s easy to make once we got done our recipe to our liking. It took Sr. Mary Catharine almost 3 months and a lot of nun-testing to get it just the way we thought you’d like it. Wait a minute, the way WE like it!
Making hand creme is easy. Being patient isn’t so easy. Depending on the weather the big stainless steel pot of what looks pretty much like milk needs to sit and cool so that it will thicken. Not too much, though, or it will be too hard to pour or go through our bottle filler.
We usually finish up just around the time the bell rings for Rosary and Sext. Then, after dinner dishes and before recreation we head back to the Soap Department to cap the bottles and jars before going outside for a good game of soccer or basketball or just a walk.
